Terms of Service

1. Who we are
Policy Scout Agency (“Policy Scout,” “we,” “us”) is an independent insurance agency licensed in Ohio and West Virginia (License #1630944). We represent multiple carriers and are not owned by any one of them. Ranger the Sasquatch is our mascot, not a licensed producer, and nothing Ranger says is insurance advice.
2. Quotes are not binding coverage
Submitting a quote request through this site does not create, bind, alter, or cancel insurance coverage. Coverage exists only when a carrier issues a policy and confirms it in writing. Any savings figures, premium estimates, or comparisons shown on this site are illustrations based on the information provided and are subject to carrier underwriting.
3. Your information must be accurate
You agree that the information you submit, drivers, vehicles, property details, prior claims, business operations, is truthful and complete to the best of your knowledge. Inaccurate information can void a quote or, after issuance, affect a claim.
4. Contact consent
By submitting a quote request you authorize Policy Scout to contact you about your inquiry by phone call, text message, email, or mail using the contact details you provided, including through automated means. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of texts, or email connect@policy-scout.com to revoke consent at any time.
5. Acceptable use
- Do not submit information about another person without their permission.
- Do not scrape, overload, probe, or attempt to breach the site or its backend.
- Do not upload malicious files or content you do not have the right to share.
6. Insurance fraud
Insurance fraud is any knowing misrepresentation, concealment, or falsification of material information made to obtain coverage, a lower premium, or a claim payment you are not entitled to. Common examples include misstating where a vehicle is garaged, leaving a household driver off a policy, inflating property values or losses, misreporting a business’s operations or payroll, submitting altered documents or declarations pages, and using another person’s identity or address.
Insurance fraud is a crime in both Ohio and West Virginia and is punishable by fines and imprisonment. Ohio law (R.C. 2913.47) and West Virginia law (W. Va. Code § 33-41-1 et seq.) make it illegal to knowingly present false or fraudulent information to an insurer or its agent. Any person who knowingly and with intent to defraud presents false information in an application for insurance is guilty of a crime and may be subject to fines and confinement in prison.
Policy Scout does not tolerate fraudulent activity. We may refuse to submit a request, decline to bind or service coverage, terminate access to this site, and report suspected fraud to the carrier, the Ohio Department of Insurance, the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner, or law enforcement as required or permitted by law. Carriers independently verify information, and material misstatements can lead to a rate increase, policy rescission, denial of a claim, or cancellation of coverage. If you believe information submitted through this site is inaccurate, email connect@policy-scout.com so we can correct it.
7. Educational content
Our insurance guides are general education for Ohio and West Virginia consumers. They are not legal, tax, or individualized insurance advice, and policy language always controls over anything written here.
8. Third-party links and tools
The site links to carrier portals, marketplace enrollment tools, and other third-party services. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, terms, or privacy practices.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by Ohio and West Virginia law, Policy Scout is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the site. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Sweepstakes and promotions
Giveaways run by Policy Scout are governed by their own posted rules, which control if there is a conflict with these terms. No purchase is necessary and a purchase does not improve odds of winning.
11. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms at any time; the “last updated” date above reflects the current version. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
12. Payment and billing authorization
When you provide payment information and authorize Policy Scout to use it, you authorize us to use that information to collect premiums for current policies, process carrier changes, make customer-requested changes, and satisfy future insurance needs you request, all on your behalf and subject to carrier billing requirements. You may revoke this authorization at any time by emailing connect@policy-scout.com.
13. Binding arbitration
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to your use of this website, a quote request, document uploads, payment collection, communications with Policy Scout, or the agency relationship created through the site shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration. This includes disputes based in contract, tort, statute, fraud, misrepresentation, or any other legal theory.
You and Policy Scout waive any right to a jury trial and any right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in a class action, collective action, private attorney general action, or class arbitration. Disputes may only be brought in your individual capacity.
Before filing for arbitration, the parties must first attempt to resolve the dispute informally by sending a written notice to connect@policy-scout.com with a description of the claim and the relief requested. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days after the notice is received, either party may initiate arbitration.
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (or a similar recognized arbitration provider) under its then-applicable Consumer Arbitration Rules or Commercial Arbitration Rules, depending on the nature of the dispute. The seat of arbitration shall be Ohio, unless applicable law requires a different location. The arbitrator may award the same damages and relief as a court.
Either party may bring qualifying claims in small-claims court if the claim is within the court's jurisdiction and remains in that court. This arbitration clause survives the end of your relationship with Policy Scout.
Some rights cannot be waived where prohibited by law. Nothing in this section limits any right or remedy that may not be waived under the laws of Ohio, West Virginia, or any other applicable jurisdiction.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Policy Scout, its owner, employees, contractors, affiliates, and licensors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost coverage, loss of data, business interruption, or reputational harm, arising out of or relating to the website, quotes, recommendations, document handling, payment collection, or professional services related to the site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Policy Scout does not guarantee that any quote, estimate, savings figure, or carrier option will be available, bound, approved, or the lowest price. Quotes and website tools are informational only. Coverage exists only when and if an insurance carrier issues a policy in its own name and confirms coverage in writing, subject to underwriting, eligibility, and the policy terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Policy Scout's total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the website, quotes, recommendations, document handling, payment collection, or professional services related to the site shall not exceed One Million Dollars ($1,000,000). This cap is intended to align with the agency's professional liability / errors-and-omissions insurance coverage limit. The limitation applies per claim and in the aggregate to the extent permitted by law.
This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including fraud, willful misconduct, or other carve-outs required by the laws of Ohio, West Virginia, or any other applicable jurisdiction.
15. Disclaimers
Policy Scout is an independent insurance agency, not an insurance company. Carriers, not Policy Scout, issue policies, set premiums, underwrite coverage, and pay claims. Website content, savings estimators, articles, and tools are general information only and are not a policy, certificate, coverage determination, or guarantee. You are responsible for reviewing all applications and policy documents for accuracy and for telling us about any changes that could affect coverage.
Policy Scout does not charge a separate broker fee for placing personal or commercial insurance through the site. Compensation is generally paid by the carriers we represent.
